Lava Beads
Black Lava Stone Bead Strands – 4mm to 14mm
Our black lava bead strands are made from natural volcanic lava stone, prized for its porous surface that absorbs and diffuses essential oils throughout the day. Each strand contains enough beads for one to two standard bracelets, depending on the size you choose.
We stock lava beads in seven sizes: 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 8mm large hole (2.5mm), 10mm, 12mm large hole, and 14mm. The 8mm size is our most popular — it’s the standard for aromatherapy diffuser bracelets and chakra jewellery. The large hole options (2.5mm hole) are designed for thicker cord, leather, and multi-strand designs where a standard 1mm hole is too small.
All lava beads are natural volcanic stone with slight variations in shape and texture, which gives each bead its unique character. They pair beautifully with gemstone beads for chakra bracelets, or use them on their own for a minimalist aromatherapy bracelet.

Lava Beads — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most popular lava bead size for bracelets?
The 8mm lava bead is the most popular size for aromatherapy and chakra bracelets. It offers a good balance between surface area for essential oil absorption and a comfortable fit on the wrist. A standard 8mm bracelet uses approximately 22 to 24 beads depending on wrist size.
What is the difference between standard hole and large hole lava beads?
Standard lava beads have an approximately 1mm hole suited for elastic stretch cord, nylon thread, and thin beading wire. Our large hole lava beads have a 2.5mm hole designed for thicker materials like leather cord, waxed cord, and multi-strand designs where a standard hole would be too small.
How many bracelets can I make from one strand?
One strand of 8mm lava beads contains 46 beads on a 36cm strand, which is enough for approximately two standard adult bracelets. Smaller bead sizes have more beads per strand, and larger sizes have fewer. The exact number of bracelets depends on your wrist size and design.
Are lava beads natural or man-made?
Our lava beads are made from natural volcanic basalt rock. They are formed when molten lava cools and solidifies, creating the characteristic porous texture with tiny holes across the surface. Each bead has slight variations in shape and texture, which is a sign of genuine natural lava stone.
Do coloured lava beads still work for aromatherapy?
Yes. Coloured lava beads are natural lava stone that has been dyed. The dyeing process does not seal the porous surface, so they still absorb and diffuse essential oils just like black lava beads. However, very light-coloured oils work best on coloured beads to avoid discolouration.
